Your sundays casual, well I wish it was my Sunday's casual. I've never been a fan of Swiss Army but this watch caught me by surprise. Fell in love with it at first sight not many watches now a days can maintain that simplicity of being a vintage with modern amenities. It's a Victorinox with the green face and the smooth stitched brown leather makes for a perfect casual watch to last you a lifetime. Your definately going to want to roll up your sleeves to show off that green face off found it here on Swiss for $395

Unfortunately for Chile another devastating earthquake has destroyed much of the infrastructure in Chile's second largest city, Concepcion but the death toll has been in no way comparable close to Haiti's earthquake with over 200,000 people reported dead Chile's death dole is approximately 400 people as of today.

Santiago in Chile

Some of the major differences with this and Haiti is that the city Concepcion has a total of 200,000 something resident and majority of those people were sleeping when the quake hit them around 2 in the morning so most people were thrown from their bed and just experienced heavy shaking. Another major difference with Chile's earthquake is the fact that Chile has experience the largest earthquake known to man with a magnitude of 9.5 in the 1970's and since that the infrastructure in the city's and surrounding city's have been pretty modern so the majority of the damage done from this earthquake has been in the older architecture areas of damages to roads rather than the whole city collapsing.

Movie Review 05: Wrong Turn at Tahoe (2009)

No you never heard of it because it's that bad.

149mq2g.png WRONG TURN AT TAHOE image by jodasal

I'm lying. Well just a little, but you really didn't hear of it because it was never released in theaters only to DVD or straight download but it's not a horrible movie just a bad one. It star's Cuba Gooding and Miguel Ferrer, in what's suppose to be a big boss vs. small fry movie but It reminded me of Shotta's the Jamaican film if you watched Shotta's and Scarface then your pretty much going to guess what happens next for the whole film.

Never seen Cuba play such a hardcore role before he definitely does not have the voice for it nor the look but I still have to commend him as he did a pretty good job and kept me entertained. The story is about Cuba being loyal to his ruthless boss, who you find out why in the dead last 5 seconds of the movies. Cuba then gets a hunch that someone wants to kill his boss so when the boss goes to check it out ends up killing "The Donald trump of the crime business" who actually answers to the big boss who was the one who initially wanted to kill him not the employee who he killed. Stupid huh? Can guess what happens? Oh yes your right! lol Don't watch this unless you have nothing else to watch please don't.

Me just ranting

What the hell is going on in the states why the hell these stupid celebrities who have no claim to fame other than the fact that their rich decide to steal! Yes steal money from the american consumers and the poorer class people. Personally I think that they did not come up with these ideas themselves, more than likely it's their business managers sit down there and say "Oh shit you guys you have no real talent and your only popular because someone somewhere decided it would be interesting to follow you around with a TV camera and that someone made you famous, so since your famous only for that reason we need to find creative ways to make you money so lets tap into the iTunes world and create some crappy app that the world will buy for $1.99 because your name is on it cause they all love you!" Fuck that!

Thats manipulation which I really don't approve of but I guess I really shouldn't be complaining with the celebrities because they're not doing something completely wrong this is their job "Being Famous" so they need to make money from it right? Well they shouldn't go about it that way exploiting teenagers and girls who love them because of how they dress. Want to know who I'm talking about?

Kim's App and even worst Heidi and Spencer's Apple Application..

Poster children for everything that's wrong with celebrities -

Movie Review 04: The Brothers Bloom (2008)

I thought I saw them all until I saw The Brothers Bloom, by them I mean Con-Artiste movies, this movie which stars Adrien Brody and Rachel Weisz is about two brothers who grew up as orphans going from house to house in their youth until they realized their potential in being professional lairs for money.

The perfect con, one where everyone gets what they want including the person being conned.

The movie has a small cast and what I would consider class C actors still kept me entertained I can feel the director trying very hard to take his film to the next level by trying to introduce some action adventure in this drama/crime movie. The movies plot can be summed up very quickly though without giving away the joy of actually watching it, firstly the brother bloom realized 25 years later after conning people from he was a child that he wants to stop! But Big brother won't allow it so he decided to pull the last con, hopefully for him the ultimate con, by conning little miss heiress of 1 million US, but this is what sets it apart from other movies like this in its class, it makes you wonder what is real from what isn't and you start to question if the brothers are against each other the movie takes you down that adventure to you to places like Berlin, Montenegro, Greece, Prague, New Jersey and even Mexico, I love movies like that.

How can I leave out the Beautiful Bang Bang! Sounds like a Flinstones character right? Well she's the girl in this picture above. Her script for this movie must have been pretty short because she says practically noting for the whole film but she's pretty awesome she's just a new addition to they crew, but plays a nice role and definitely helps add to the action that the director clearly was trying to hard to add to the movie.

Overall it's a great comedy, action, crime, adventure, lying! movie so enjoy! Not in my top 10 but definitely something to kill time to watch.

My ratings 6 out of 10.

This is a picture of the exit ramp at the Vatican museum. This actually is two staircases that have been intertwined with each other for people to get in and out of the stair case, again I have to commend Gandhi, the same Jamaican who took the earlier posts pictures of Jamaica. He is the photographer behind an amazing photograph.

Welcome to Jamaica!

100% Touristy.. Well I like it none the less plus the photographer did a good job capturing the rings to show "hey Jamaica is the best place for you to have a nice by the beach wedding." Check out more of his wedding albums at his website, if your young like me you'll probably consider hiring him for your wedding, who knows?

Horizontal Websites

Don't you just hate horizontal websites?

Horrible isn't it?

When last have you been on a good website and you have to scroll from left to right to read text?
Never!

Because the first thing they taught us in website design is people have been conditioned to reading websites/electronic documents and pretty much any form of text from top to bottom. Not from left to right, don't fully believe me? Look on your mouse right now, does it have a scroll wheel? I'm willing to bet that it only scrolls up and down and not left and right, why would designers make the mosue like that? Because thats the standard, thats the convention.

Well this is 2010 now and some really brave "Flashy" designers want to change the way how we are conditioned with all these new futuristic designed websites adopting this type of horizontal designed website and I must add some of them have done a pretty good job in doing so, but for others I think they need a bit more work firstly a horizontal website if you decide to go that route shouldn't even be noticeable by the user they should find it so easy to use that they didn't even know it was a horizontal website.

People are so accustomed to doing things one way to get them to change is almost impossible unless it's something they have to do or depend on heavily, but in the case of many of these websites they adopt these designs to try to stand out, even urban outfitters blog tried the horizontal website (see header of this post) for sometime last year and received too many complaints from its readers till they decided it was just better to stick to what everyone knew and love.

It's better I give you a couple of examples for you to see what I'm talking about rather than just talk about it and you tell me what you think because ultimately your the end user and they make these websites not for themselves but you the users. There's just something about knowing a lot of people went to your website, it gives you that feeling of accomplishment.

Good designs:

Ego Photo - A website featuring all flash, pictures are presented and the flash it includes makes the site very interactive.

Carrot Creative - Is a Marketing Agency based in New York City and what makes their website unique is the fact that it does incorporates side scrolling but at no point will their ever be half of a word on the screen as the pages are divided up into sections and when you click a link it side scrolls so that the new section takes up the entire screen never having to worry about that annoying horizontal side scrolling bar.

Graphic Therapy - With the use of a simple navigation boxes up at the top right hand corner of your page it makes it real easy to navigate through content and this keep this theme consistent throughout all pages so you know how and where to find links.

_________________________________________

Bad Designs:

Oskar Kron - This guy is suppose to be a graphics designer. How sad. He's a freelance designer and this is suppose to be his website that makes clients want to do business with him.

and the worst horizontal website goes to Jason Love

This had me in tears with how horrible this design was, not speaking as a computer science major but this webmaster because his website was so "Different" he has text to remind us how to navigate his site. Lets stop right there for a second. Text to tell us how to navigate because it's that complicated but it doesn't stop there Jason Love's webmaster believed it would also help putting numbers on each section of the page like a number line so hey you should know where to scroll next. -10 to -9 and so on.

The other really bad thing about this website is that it begins in the middle, not to the extreme left so not only is this a horizontal website this is a horizontal website that's center can scroll to the left and scroll to the right, I'm not sure if any of you might like this but I just think it's horrible. Check it out for yourselves to see what I mean.

Lent

40, 44, 38 or 46 days?

A while ago I was on twitter and saw a post about lent's 46 days but I said to myself from I been going church when I was little I know lent to be 40 days and 40 nights, they even have a song which got stuck in my head about 40 days and 40 nights and I'm absolutely sure that Lent ends on Holy Thursday.

Well have any of you ever counted the amount of days till Holy thursday from Ash Wednesday? I did a while ago and I counted 44 days. I wondered why was everyones impression of Lent to be 40 days then? I thought about leap years but that still wouldn't make it 40 days that'd make it 40 on some leap years not all, dependent on the days of easter so it really made me do some research and even though I found an explanation it still wasn't 100% correctly logically so I just guess it's just easier to use thats a perfect multiple of 10 maybe it justs sounds nicer? Right?

No.

The technical reason behind the 40 days is the fact that Lent does not include the holy Sundays it incorporates but if you count it then you get 38 days excluding the six Sundays they do not count as those six Sundays are considered to be a celebration of easter. It gets deeper though. Clearly it's just a period and the technicalities shouldn't matter but I realize it's a thing of culture. Lent is observed in two different ways around the world split into a eastern Christian Churches and the western Christian Churches which names the period "Great Lent" and doesn't start the period until the following Monday after ash Wednesday which is celebrated as "Clean Monday" and sticks to the actual 40 days ending the period 9 days before the easter celebrations.

The spiritual reason behind the 40 days are more abundant but then it makes you question the likelyhood of these things actually lasting exactly 40 days but the spiritual reason is because firstly after the flood that destroyed the earth, it rained for 40 days and nights, secondly the Hebrews who were looking for the promise land searched for 40 days before they found it also Moses fasted for 40 days before he received the ten commandments and last and most important is that Jesus in preparation for his ministry went into the wilderness where he was tempted for 40 days whilst he fasted, thus the spiritual reasoning of the 40 days of lent.

From the information I've laid out here your suppose to start wondering now that maybe we have it wrong on the western side of the world? With what they say and what they do right? I think some Catholic churches in the states realized this simple technicality and have extended their Lent period to be 46 days ending on the Saturday after Holy Thursday and then subtracting the 6 Sundays they celebrate the mini-easter thus by making it 40 days.

All in all I found out though that the days of Easter is what constitutes what day is Ash Wednesday which constitutes how long Lent will be. For example this year Ash Wednesday is today (Feb 17th) next year Ash Wednesday will fall in March (March 9th) so once ever seven years they won't need to worry about those extra days that the Lent would bring about because all in all Lent is what comes before we celebrate that Christ who died, rose again three years later thats the complete focus here. So despite the technicalities I hope you do realize the importance of this period and please to note I'm not just focusing on the technicalities, I am actually planning on giving up "Going out" and "Eating after 11pm" for the period of Lent to help in my preparation and reflection before Easter.

Thanks for reading this post!

Movie Review 03: "In the Loop" (2009)

"War is unforeseeable"

and remember "sometimes it's necessary to climb the mountain of conflict." lol.

This funny British comedy is a must see! A movie based on an impeding war and the decisions from Britain's Minister and staff, intertwined with the US Governments secrecy about newly formed committee's. This movie is fast pace and will keep you laughing for the entire film.

The movie's brilliance lies in the fact that they take such grave matters of importance, complicated and sensitive topics such as war and break it down into in home entertainment in a very professional manner without making it a bad comedy. This lies in the roles of the heads of state of both in the US and London, serious people or rather people who should be deemed as serious but break down their layers for us to see how they react as real people, from Minister's who want to masturbate in their hotel room but scared that the media would get a hold of such information to assistants who have never been in a motorcade and shows off their excitement.

The movie brings you back and forth though showing how the media can complicate any matter and also showing you how small problems for ministers can balloon into your career being on the line. After watching this movie though I have came to the conclusion that British people (Don't make the mistake to call them English!) are people of sarcasm and slick talking entertainers. The movie though is filled with profanity but in a funny way.

Quotes from In the loop:

Simon Foster: Judy and I thought I could row back on Question Time, tonight
Malcolm Tucker: You're not going on Question Time tonight, you've been disinvited
Simon Foster: We've been prepping Question Time!
Judy: Why wasn't I told about this?
Malcolm Tucker: Why the fuck would I tell you about it? I've just told you to fuck off twice yet you're still here?
Judy: You should tell me about it as it's a scheduled media appearance by a member of this department and therefore it falls well within my purview!
Malcolm Tucker: Within your 'purview'? Where do you think you are, some fucking regency costume drama? This is a government department, not some fucking Jane fucking Austen novel! Allow me to pop a jaunty little bonnet on your purview and ram it up your shitter with a lubricated horse cock!
Judy: Your swearing does not impress me. My husband works for Tower Hamlets and believe me those kids make you sound like... Angela Lansbury!
Malcolm Tucker: [to Simon] She's married? Poor bastard.

In the Loop which takes some thought because it's not like your regular comedy where you just sit and enjoy the jokes, for a westerner it makes you have to use some brain power to get some of the jokes because at the beginning of the movie you were all for against the war and as the movie progresses you see that their no bad guys only people on the left, and people on the right only a matter of your opinion then you see the people your thought were against the war are pushed into a position that might require them to be for the war where this is all based upon one vote which will take place at the UN headquarters in New York City. The movie has many little snippets in it like a boyfriend being unfaithful or a ministers constituents wall dropping on a civilians property little things that add to the movies entertainment.

My rating 9 out of 10.

We are the world 25.

I said to myself I was not going to write about this because I thought the video said it all. I had goose bumps the whole time it was so powerful, but I decided to write a post about it after reading the different comments made under the video posted on YouTube and realizing that only yesterday I wrote about Out of Many One people. This is the perfect example to show people of different walks of life coming together to sing for one cause.

Its really powerful!

Its like think about it what does Pink, Iyaz, Tony Bennett, Mary Mary and Lil' Wayne have in common? They all support this cause for us to help out Haiti in their time of trouble and this do this by coming together and singing such a powerful remake of We Are The World 25.

Some people though didn't seem to like the combination of artiste, some didn't like the fact that most of them used auto-tune and the others just hated the "rappers" verse. I personally liked every single thing in that video and I say hats off to Paul Haggis as he did a great job remaking directing the video, again I commend RedOne, every artiste got their own time slice and think about it, it's really hard to get all these artiste on a track that only lasts 6:40 secs the artiste line up in order of apperance was:

MTV's coverage behind the scenes of it shows a little of what went into making this great video, when you press play just leave it let it load all videos it's a playlist of videos so just sit back and relax:

Movie Review 02: "Everybody's Fine" (2009)

I put the title in quotations for a reason,

I decided to watch this movie merely because Robert De Niro was in it. Usually any movie he does I like he's only chooses to do really good comedies [except the forker's part 2] or actions and every now and then do some real acting doing a drama. This movie which I would consider to be straight drama, started out on a sad note and typically the type of movies I watch like this would recover from that sad note but in Everybody's Fine it just kept on going on, at one point I just though De Niro would have started crying with everything that was happening but I guess his character was stronger than I thought he just kept on pushing.

The movie is about a widowed husband, De Niro who in my opinion is looking really old and it makes me sad. He decided to invited his 4 children; Rosie, Amy, Robert & Jack home to spend a Christmas weekend with him because none of them has been back since their mother died 5 years ago, then then all cancel on him for different reasons, but the real reason was because one of them was in trouble. This is what hurt me they didn't think for one second to just come clean to the father in all the lying! That's what parents are for to support you even when something bad has happened. Well the story goes even deeper the father decides since they not coming to visit him, he'll go and visit them so he goes on a journey first to New York then to Chicago on to Denver and lastly Las Vegas visiting them all, in my opinion they are all horrible children! They all lied and lied and lied to De Niro even though he knew they were lying and he just kept taking it.

Eventually when he decided to leave something worst happened to him? Remember what I said about typical movies? Usually the sad part is at the start not in Everybody's fine, the whole movie has this sad tone you just feel so sorry for De Niro, at this point they all decide enough is enough and come clean. The movie has a little shaky ending though even though the father got what he wanted. For a drama movie it's a great movie if you think your life sucks and you want to watch something sad to make you feel better I totally recommend it but if your very happy please don't watch it. It will kill your mood! I like movies like this though unpredictable plus it makes you want to always see whats going to happen next and ends at the perfect time so you know you won't be dying to crave a part 2 or something.

My rating 8.3 out of 10.

Movie Review 01: Leap Year (2009)

So this is the first of my blog posts which will start my movie reviews. If any one out there has any clue who I am they will know about my second half her name I shall leave out of this post but the significance of me bringing her up before my first review of my movie post is that she will be relived to know that I have substituted her as the forum which I express my thoughts about the movies I watch, duly note I watch a lot of movies so for that I think she will be grateful.

Also my reviews aren't just reviews, it's both my ideas and thoughts from watching the movie and where did I get this idea from? A movie! Julie & Julia!

On to leap year now...

So girl in picture, first name Amy last name Adams she's kind of a big deal but I loved her in this movie she was pretty awesome as Anna. The girl who pretty much has it all the perfect job the perfect boyfriend and about to get the perfect apartment with her perfect boyfriend. Truth be told there so many Anna's out there that the movie seemed so boring to me it's almost as if you can predict what is going to happen. Girl has guy, guy suppose to propose but guy doesn't so girl gets sad, guy doesn't know so guy goes away on business without caring and girl runs after him.. so predictable? Yes! But for leap year this is where the movie begins when she's running him down and ends up very far and has to go on a journey to get to her boyfriend. Because she doesn't do this journey alone you get to see the story unfolds little perfect American girl with Mr. I don't care Irish boy, seriously think they end up together? They definitely sound like the cultural differences would get in the way but you'd have to watch the movie to see how it all ends but good movie by them all funny little twists towards the end is why I give it a 7 out of 10.

Nothing more because it's still kind of predictable.

Why I Wear Black

People need to stop looking too deep into things that were meant to be simple. Today I listened as someone spoke about my choice of clothing. If you don't know me eight out of ten times I'll be wearing black from head to toe why because I like black its simple its unambiguous and its simple.

Not because I'm following Jay-Z, not because I'm might be Gothic and dark and definately not because its the only color clothes I buy.

I like black stuff simple! My computers are black my bags are black my phone is black the case for it is black my wallet, almost everything. I also like leather too. So my question is if you like something you can wear why not wear it? that's as far as it goes.

Sent from my BlackBerry® device from Digicel

by the way did you know I'm black.

I grew up in Jamaica. Kingston, Jamaica.

And I never knew what was race, I really didn't. I thought we were all the same people just some had different colors because everyone is unique you know some darker some shorter some skinner but I guess as I got older I started to open my eyes. Quite frankly it's upsetting this whole division of people into different racial classes,I watch a movie named Skin, which the whole movie (a true story) was about a female with a brown complexion who was born to light complexion Afrikaner parents and her struggle to be classified by the government in South Africa as "White" or "Black." Really? A whole movie about calling her black or white? I think I preferred my view when I was a child with no set racial divisions. Why is it necessary anyways? It only leads to problems, what good thing came out of dividing people like that? Please to explain it because I believe it creates sides, it only builds up anger, it creates a bond between some and preference for different racial classes.

But I guess seeing as how I had no choice in the matter and I was born of a certain race what then do I do, embrace it? fight it? or pretend it doesn't exist?

To tell the God honest truth before I use to completely avoid situations or even conversations that involve race, just like the teachers say, avoid touchy topics like "Race and Religion" but how smart is that? We all need to know where we come from our roots, culture, background and embrace it to have a vivid picture of how to shape our future, how to move away from this racial division right?

So yeah in this journey of educating myself about this whole topic it made me realize that race isn't such a bad thing it's just that our past has made it into a bad thing because of the way people were treated and are still being treated today. No need to be angry though, deal with these racial situations today like someone who is fully aware of these issues and know's how to look pass the past and look towards integration in the future see that were all alike were all human and I can guarantee you in most cases you'll be treated with the respect and dignity that you deserve despite the color of your skin. If not know that the world is still filled with ignorance but you can help by trying to help educate and open their minds. I love to hear when influencial educate themselves on sensitive issues and uses their powers for good!

This is a picture of Tyrese at MLK :

His twitter caption for this picture was:

"POWERFUL: This is the actual Grave site of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and his wife Corretta Scott King and that's Ambassador Andrew Young MLK's Best Friend. Today has changed my life.. Atlanta has a lot of African American History wow...."

This is a picture of me when I was there, truly powerful.

So in my view race shouldn't be an issue and the world should work towards integration of our people. Jamaica's motto sums up my view it is something I absolutely adore "Out of Many One People" and I think we've become successful in living up to it. Like I said, I never knew what race was I thought we were all One People.
